A Puerto Rican family has chosen to display their dead son, 26-year-old Fernando de Jesus Diaz Beato, in a funeral home seated with his eyes open, wearing sports gear and holding a cigarette. Apparently, they did so in order to be able to remember him just as he was in life. His sister, Ihizz Diaz Beato, explained their decision, saying: “we didn’t want to see him lying in a coffin. We wanted something different.” According to Damaris Marin, owner of Marin Funeral Home, while this was not the first unconventional funeral they had hosted, this funeral has received “the most impressive reaction” from the public.
