Members of self-styled militia groups have joined armed anti-government protesters occupying a federal wildlife refuge in the US State of Oregon.
By Paul Craig Roberts – Former Assistant Secretary of US Treasury
One of the groups has called for setting up a safety perimeter around the wildlife refuge as the protesters say they have no immediate plans to leave. They stormed the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge last Saturday to show their anger at the arrest of two ranchers convicted in a 2012 arson attack on public land. The US government has directed local officials to peacefully resolve the issue and avoid a violent confrontation. Similar crises in Idaho and Texas caused dozens of fatalities in the 1990s.
